See Inside John Lennon’s Former New York City Penthouse

While New York City real estate listings are constantly teeming with luxury apartments and penthouses, it’s not too often that you come upon the once home of a member of The Beatles. Today, John Lennon’s former 4,000-square-foot NYC penthouse has hit the market for $5.5 million and it’s where some of the musician’s most iconic moments took place.

Located at the top of the exclusive Southgate complex at 434 East 52nd Street, the apartment spans three floors and includes an enormous 2,000-square-foot wraparound terrace that can be accessed from every room on the main floor. Not to mention, that the apartment as a whole delivers stunning panoramic views of the city— and even in the days before Instagram, Lennon knew a good backdrop when he saw one.

According to the listing, this apartment is where Lennon’s infamous black-and-white “New York City” photos were taken and later published in Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine in 1974. This is also where Lennon was living when he famously claimed he saw a UFO.

But even besides the legendary musician’s experiences there, the apartment’s style makes it a standout home on its own.
