The recent passing of actor Chadwick Boseman has put a spotlight on the thousands of young people battling Colon Cancer.

“Chadwick Boseman is super inspirational hero of mine. I’m a big fan of Marvel movies, he’s the “Black Panther”. I love him in those movies like Jackie Robinson”

But 22-year-old Isaac Moel has more than just that in common with the actor.

“When you think cancer a lot of people think older people, like grandparents. They don’t see me on the street or see Chadwick Boseman and his movies and think that’s what a cancer patient looks like,” said Moel.

But it’s Moel’s reality.

Things That’ll Sell Out: Alex Mill, Blundstones, Illesteva | The Strategist

Photo-Illustration: retailers

In this week’s edition of Don’t Dillydally, we’re feeling the nip of fall with a couple of autumnal launches from Alex Mill and Blundstone. And if (indoor) entertaining ever becomes a thing again, we’ve got a couple of serving and cookware releases from kooky-aunt emporium McKenzie-Childs and upstart Our Place, respectively.

Alex Mill, the elevated basics brand from the folks behind Madewell, just launched a collection of natural indigo pieces repurposed from its overstock. Dyed with GOTS-certified organic plant-based indigo by Pennsylvania-based Green Matters Natural Dye Company, the limited-edition run includes a tunic shirt, cargo pants, a unisex Oxford shirt and work jacket, and, a linen jumpsuit — all of which we think would help your wardrobe make that transition into fall. Only dozens of each item were made, so, as they say, don’t dillydally.

It’s about to be boot season, whether

Ho Che Anderson’s Novella Stone: Exclusive Excerpt and Art

Illustration for article titled Get a First Look at Ho Che Andersons iStone/i, a Neo-Noir Tale of Basketball, Revenge, and Rebellion

Image: NeoText

In a not-entirely-unfamiliar world harshly divided along class lines, where elections are canceled and the wealthy keep a tight hold on power, a young basketball star who just happens to be descended from the legendary rebel queen Boudica decides enough is enough. That’s the set-up for Ho Che Anderson’s new novella Stone, featuring gorgeous illustrations by the author.

io9 is thrilled to be debuting the cover, four illustrations, and an excerpt from Stone today. “The notion of revenge is exciting on a visceral level,” comic creator Anderson said in a statement. “Who among us hasn’t had the fantasy of exacting payback against those who have wronged us? And who among us doesn’t enjoy seeing that fantasy played out by onscreen proxies? But the reality of that cycle of violence in the real world is ugly and messy. I wanted to look at revenge at a

Mieko Kawakami and Kali Fajardo-Anstine in Conversation

courtesy

I came across Mieko Kawakami’s work when a Japanese fan of my short story collection Sabrina & Corina (just published in Japanese last month) posted our books together on Instagram.

Mieko’s novel, Breasts & Eggs, is set in Tokyo and follows the lives of working-class women from Osaka, exploring themes including the female body, violence against women, the writer’s life, and motherhood. Originally published in Japan as a novella in 2008, the book was expanded into a new novel, translated into English, and published by Europa Editions in April. I couldn’t put it down.

I posted the book on my Instagram with the caption, “Breasts & Eggs by @kawakami_mieko is making me feel very seen. It is such a pleasure to read this book. Last night I texted my sisters to buy a copy immediately.” Mieko then appeared in my DMs with a fire emoji, and, well, the

A Twist on a Twist, Clyde Hill House Offers an New Take on Mid-Century Modern Revival

The Mid-Century Modern revival movement of the last decade is slowly evolving into a new look. While we may be seeing less Barcelona chairs in living rooms, the principles of the classic design style are still being implemented, just in a more contemporary way. The blending of old and new in everything from the architectural lines of homes to the materials used throughout has resulted in a new twist to the timeless look of the 1950s and ‘60s. One Seattle architect has created a home that is a “modern” take on modern that is both timeless and innovative. Check out Clyde Hill House — a stylish, light-filled blend of old and new.

The idea for a contemporary home built on mid-century modern principles came from the clients themselves. Wanting a space that offered privacy but plenty of natural light, the clients provided architect Paul Michael Davis with a perfect starting

Prince Harry and Meghan Sign Megawatt Netflix Deal

LOS ANGELES — Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, having resettled in California, on Wednesday unveiled new Hollywood careers.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have founded a yet-to-be-named production company and signed a multiyear deal with Netflix, which will pay them to make documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming — giving the couple a global platform six months after their dramatic decampment from the House of Windsor.

Harry and Meghan may appear on camera in documentary programming. But she has repeatedly made it clear that she has no plans to return to acting, having last appeared in the cable drama “Suits,” which concluded its run in 2019. Their content will be exclusive to Netflix.

“Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope,” the couple said in a statement. “As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us.” They

The Savoy hotel’s history of celebrity extravagance, from Winston Churchill to Marilyn Monroe, has been paused by coronavirus

It was the first luxury hotel in Britain, and 131 years on “The Savoy” remains the definition of luxury accommodation. Just have a read of the listing for the Royal Suite on the website.

This is “an open-plan procession of rooms” with chandeliers, their own private bar, a Jacuzzi, a steam shower, a dressing room with cedar-lined wardrobes and a butler on call 24 hours a day. It has only one bed, but it’s a four-poster king – and the suite is nearly six times the size of the average UK one-bedroom home, at 265sqm.

Spanning “the entire riverside of the fifth floor”, it offers a panoramic view of the Thames. “As the day draws to a close the views become even more dramatic as the silver curve of the river threads its way beneath a city that twinkles through the night.” But you can’t stay there. Nor can I,
